The HyVelocity Hydrogen Hub, comprised of leading energy companies and organizations, announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of encouragement for HyVelocity to apply for regional clean hydrogen hub funding. The HyVelocity Hub team submitted a concept paper to DOE in November that outlines how it will accelerate the development of clean hydrogen projects in Texas, Southwest Louisiana, and the U.S. Gulf Coast. Encouragement from DOE indicates that HyVelocity has the potential to be chosen as one of DOE’s 6-10 regional clean hydrogen hubs once full applications are submitted in April 2023.

Matching the scale up of clean hydrogen production to a growing regional demand is a key pathway to achieving large-scale, commercially viable hydrogen ecosystems and decarbonizing multiple sectors of the economy. HyVelocity will leverage the world’s largest concentration of existing hydrogen production assets, infrastructure, and customers in the Gulf Coast region to produce clean hydrogen, deliver benefits to the surrounding communities, and support a just and equitable energy transition.

GTI Energy, The Center for Houston’s Future, The University of Texas at Austin, Air Liquide, and Chevron are among the founding members of the HyVelocity Hub.
