Community Benefits Planning
The HyVelocity Hub (HyV) will serve disadvantaged and underserved communities by creating jobs, improving labor standards, reducing local pollution, and delivering 40% of the benefits of the hub to communities as outlined in the Justice40 Initiative.
HyV’s focus region, including parts of Texas and Louisiana, includes vulnerable communities that have not proportionately seen the benefits of clean energy investments. The HyV project team will work with community partners to develop and employ strategies that address community concerns regarding:
- Environmental justice
- Economic considerations
- Community health
- Opportunity access
- Workforce development pipelines
- Regional planning for industry infrastructure
We will partner with local and regional organizations to:
- Understand key environmental, health, and wellness challenges in the communities that will host new industrial builds.
- Build relationships with key community stakeholders.
- Develop a Community Engagement Plan that links hub outcomes to the specific needs of the local communities.
- Explore opportunities for small-, women-, veteran-, and minority-owned businesses to play an important and active role in the hub.
- Deliver place-based, needs-focused benefits to disadvantaged communities for the Justice40 Initiative policy priorities with specific focus on economic resilience, community wealth, and well-being.
- Leverage bipartisan support from elected leaders at all levels of government to ensure benefits flow to disadvantaged communities through inclusive and equitable investments.
HyVelocity, an industry-led hub administered by GTI Energy, consists of a wide array of partners including, the Center for Houston’s Future, the Houston Advanced Research Center, and The University of Texas at Austin. HyVelocity has seven core industry participants and 90+ supporting partners from industry, community engagement and impacts organizations, non-profits, academic, and government supporters.
